Default Best needle lubricant?

What's the best lubricant for your needle? How often do you apply it?

Good question! Hope someone chimes in with an answer. I keep forgetting to ask my paint rep about it.

Default Not sure but sounds like a good idea

I am not sure about this but a product called tuf-glide might work. it is a dry lubricant that forms a microsopic bond to metal and repels dust and dirt. I am in the military and I live by this stuff. I use it for my weapon ad various knives and tools. Like I said before not sure if it would work but I do know it does dry to the touch in a few seconds. I am fairly new to airbrushing but I was a fine arts major in college and found alot of useful tehniques for other mediums in the strangest places. One things for certain I can definitely maguyver almost anything.

Thanks for the tip synful1! After some digging around, I noticed that some gun manufacturers just recommend "anything not containing silicone." I had some Marvel Mystery Oil laying around, and I checked the FAQ site for it http://www.marvelmysteryoil.com/index.php/site/faq/, and it says that MMO does not contain silicone. So I tried a few drops on the gun I have, which freed it up immediately, and seemed to spray just fine on some test panels I'm practicing on. I'm no expert, and the paint didn't quite come out like I had hoped, but I don't think the MMO had any bad effects, so I may buy a precision oiler at Harbor Freight, and put a drop or two of oil on both the main needle and the air valve needle each time I spray. I already use MMO on all of my air tools, so its nice to know I can stick with it as a product for my spray guns as well.

DON'T do that!!!! An inline oiler adds oil to the air, which will go into the gun and cause MAJOR paint problems. ANY paint supply store will have what you need. Just ask for it. Even the cheap paint gun cleaning kits will have a little white container of a lube that looks like vaseline(but ISN'T). You also shouldn't use the same airhose that has had oil in it. For the same reasons as above. The hose is contaminated and will cause problems.

go to the paint gun section of TCP and look at gun accessories. They have it right there. Little kind of greenish looking bottleof lube. Thats what I use. Great stuff. I paint 6-8 cars a day and my guns are put in a gun washer after every paint job. I will lube probably 2-3 times a day. I have used 1 bottle for at least 2 months and still have 2/3 of a bottle left.Only takes a drop where the needle goes into the gun on both sides(front and back) of needle. pull the trigger, put a drop in front of the trigger where the needle goes in the gun. Release and add a drop behind the trigger where it goes into the gun. Pull the trigger a couple of times and your set.

Anest Iwata Spray Gun Lube #8511.....i oil the needle like he does , right at the "rub mark" where it goes into the gun 1 drop , then one drop on the flare bushing behind the trigger , one drop each side of the spring and one drop on the material screw threads..

If u Ever think there's been oil in a line get a new one...or put laquer thinner in one end of the hose , reconnect and blow it outside the shop into a white rag , you can tell if it turns a brownish yellow , keep doing it until it blows clear/clean.
